Senator Jon Kyl's decision to not support the new Start Treaty during the lame duck session of Congress is unfortunate. Coupled with Mitch McConnell's post-election announced singular objective of ensuring Obama is a one-term president signals the U.S. is a long way from being a healthy, functioning country with a civil government. One would think in a world of growing opportunity (Asia's continued ascent is amazing to witness) that the legislative branch would be keen on ensuring the U.S. reputation around the world does not lose more ground, supports policies that strengthen our international ties, expands our trade opportunities, and improves our domestic economy. Yet at virtually every turn, our politicians are more concerned with petty playground-style vengeance. This is not what makes a great country. It is simply disturbing and disappointing and is hastening the decline of U.S. strength, progress, and leadership.
